Dr Jaipreet Virdi (University of Delaware)
talks about her experience of growing up d/Deaf and the endless search for a cure for deafness in American society.
Dr Virdi’s award-winning book Hearing Happiness: Deafness Cures in History (2020) was ground breaking in its combination of personal experience and archival research. She is working on histories of deafness and disability in the 19th and 20th century, including a study of endometriosis and British treatments of deafness from 1780 onwards.
